Securing €15M and Cracking the Cost Code
It has been a monumental year in Maastricht. Today, we are thrilled to announce two major milestones that bring us closer than ever to serving you the beef you love, made in a way that is kinder to the planet.
We have secured an additional €15 million in funding, bringing our total capital raised over the past two years to €58 million. But perhaps even more exciting is what this funding has allowed us to achieve: We have officially reached a critical cost-parity milestone.
The €250,000 Burger is History
When our founders introduced the world’s first cultivated beef burger in London in 2013, it was a scientific marvel with a heavy price tag: €250,000. It was a proof of concept that proved to the world that growing meat from cells was possible.
Today, thanks to fundamental scientific breakthroughs and massive scaling efficiencies, we have achieved a 99.999% cost reduction compared to that first burger.
As our CEO, Maarten Bosch, puts it: "Today, we are producing burgers at a price point ready for restaurant menus. With the backing of our world-class investors, we have successfully turned a science project into a tasty and affordable product without compromising on our original vision."
This isn't just about economics; it's about accessibility. It means we are ready to bring real, delicious beef to your plate without the premium price tag.
Fueling the Next Phase
This fresh financing round sees continued support from committed partners who believe in the long-term vision of sustainable food. We are grateful for the backing of:
Invest-NL (backed by a guarantee from InvestEU) & LIOF: Dutch state-owned impact investors.
PHW Group: Our strategic partner.
Jitse Groen: Founder and CEO of Just Eat Takeaway.com.
Victor Meijer, investment principal at Invest-NL, noted that while investing in emerging sectors requires stamina, Mosa Meat has built a "strong foundation" and is taking "clear steps toward commercialization." Read the full press release in our press kit.
Navigating the Path to Your Plate
While the macroeconomic landscape remains challenging, and disinformation regarding cellular agriculture persists, we remain laser-focused on the facts and the future.
Currently, we have regulatory dossiers under review in the United Kingdom, the European Union, Switzerland, and Singapore. In a promising development, we were also recently selected for the UK’s regulatory "Sandbox" programme, supported by the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology.
Furthermore, our work has been recognized closer to home. Working with the Cellular Agriculture Netherlands (CAN) foundation, Mosa Meat was defined as a participating partner in a strategic climate technology project in the influential Dutch 'Wennink Report.' This positions us to benefit from national mechanisms designed to accelerate the Netherlands' transition to sustainable growth.
Stay tuned, 2026 is going to be delicious.
